Family 2025

Mayor, Erica Hartley

Erica has lived in Mission Woods with her husband, Paul, since October 2021. They have a son, Owen, and a daughter, Audrey, who are truly their pride and joy. They also share their home with two chubby cats, Nucky and Turtle, who are well-known along their cul-de-sac. Before moving to Mission Woods, Erica and Paul lived in the neighboring city of Westwood but feel they've found the perfect place to raise their family within this wonderful community. Mission Woods offers a unique, small-town feel right on the edge of Kansas City.

In April 2025, Erica founded her own real estate development firm, Defy. After working as a Development Manager for nearly three years, the timing felt right to pursue a vision of building high-performance homes that reflect her values and commitment to thoughtful, future-focused development. Prior to that, she spent five years as the sales, marketing, and operations manager of her family-owned Merry Maids franchise, and seven years in education, primarily as a high school history and broadcast journalism teacher in North Kansas City.

Erica holds a BA in Communication from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an MA in Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Over the years, she has served in a variety of leadership and service roles, including as a steering committee member on both the Reimagine Rainbow initiative and the Westwood Park Planning Committee. She has served on the Mission Woods City Council since April 2023 and was appointed Council President in June 2023. Following the mayor's resignation in April 2025, she assumed the role and will serve the remainder of the term.

Erica is honored to serve as mayor and looks forward to working together to support the community's shared future.
